The Antonio Ligabue House Museum is pleased to announce the opening of the exhibition "Enchanted Visions," curated by Vera Canevazzi and Margherita Strada, which presents a dialogue between Antonio Ligabue and the young artist Alessandro Abruscato, known as ABAL.
In the context of this place that housed and protected Antonio Ligabue, the exhibition chronicles the artist's tumultuous life and his struggle against isolation and marginalization through works, films and documents. Today, Alessandro Abruscato's works are welcomed in this setting, becoming part of a series of monthly exhibitions that relate Ligabue's work to that of contemporary artists. This initiative continues the tradition of reception that the Caleffi family has maintained since the early twentieth century, opening up new narratives and interpretive perspectives. Alessandro Abruscato offers a personal reinterpretation of the pictorial works of Ligabue, one of his reference masters, within a private and intimate context. His reinterpretations, characterized by a lively and dreamy approach, reflect his experience gained during the two-year period in Spain, where he lived until 2023, and are distinguished by the use of intense colors, rapid and full-bodied graphic strokes and a strongly expressive style. His main goal is to convey a precise state of mind through figurative painting. Like Ligabue, Abruscato prefers subjects that allow him to explore existential frailties, such as realistic or allegorical portraits, natural elements and animals. Fascinated by symbolism, Abruscato seeks to evoke a dreamlike and spiritual dimension in each of his works, which goes beyond the mere representation of reality and pushes into mysterious and unexplored worlds.
